This single-origin coffee with the Jimma appellation comes to us from Ethiopia, and aims to offer you a quality organic coffee that remains affordable.
Its composition will evolve over the year, but will always respect the Jimma origin (a special area of Ethiopia, in the Oromia region, home to a forest of the same name). As usual, we'll be bringing you details of the people who make it, and the environmental or social projects it's part of!
Why the name Oromo? It refers to the people who live in the Oromia region, where the Jimma appellation is located. The Oromos are also present in Somalia and northern Kenya, and speak a macro-language also called Oromo.
Jimma is a coffee-growing region with a rich natural environment. Coffee grows mainly in the shade of endemic trees in the forests, producing high-quality cups thanks to a sustainable agricultural model. Although the appellation has been slow to enter the international specialty coffee scene, the efforts of local producers and their organization have revealed the potential of Jimma coffees, guaranteeing traceability and quality.
Jimma coffees are generally described as having fruity aromas (peach, pomelo, pomegranate, lemon) with floral notes (jasmine, rose). Recommended for those who like their coffee not too intense, they have a refreshing acidity and great sweetness.
The coffee beans in our Single Origin Jimma today come from Khalid Shifa, owner of a coffee farm handed down by his grandfather in the town of Gera. His grandfather developed the first plantations using wild plants from the Choché forest. The growing demand for Jimma coffee has consolidated these plantations, and Khalid proudly perpetuates this tradition. He considers his coffee plants to be his “own children”, a testament to the care he takes of his farm and the quality of his production.
