Dimtu Coffee Industry was founded in 2013 by Ato Getahew and Ato Aschalew. Javry is particularly proud to offer you one of their coffees, as the projects supported and implemented by Dimtu are as numerous as they are virtuous:
At Javry, our aim is to give you as many details as possible about the origin of your coffee! Here, Dimtu manages the production and processing of the coffee, but it is harvested by the Mancity* farm in the village of Teo. This farm is located in the Odo Shakiso woreda: a woreda is an administrative subdivision of Ethiopia. And Mancity is the equivalent of a locality. This is the location of the 150 hectares of Guji appellation coffee we mentioned earlier.
Ato is a forest coffee, a fundamentally ecological method of cultivation, as opposed to intensive monoculture. The coffee trees grow alongside several other trees: this ecosystem provides them with perfect shade, and also makes the soil on which they grow much richer and more fertile. Of course, this means that fewer coffee trees are planted on the same plot of land (as space is needed for the other trees), but it's well worth the effort. A shining example of eco-responsible commitment at a price!
The farm not only includes coffee growers, but also sugar cane, avocado, mango and banana plantations... Finally, a nursery has been set up to produce future coffee and shade trees on site.
*Dimtu also works with small independent producers who own plots of land in the immediate vicinity of the Mancity farm.
Guji coffee, originally from Ethiopia, has a centuries-old history. Wild varieties grew naturally in the region's forests, and were used by the Oromos in their traditions long before any commercial exploitation. Long confused with Sidama, Guji obtained its own appellation in the 2000s. This distinction, decided by the Ethiopian authorities, aimed to improve traceability and highlight the unique quality of this coffee.
Today, Guji is recognized as one of the world's finest coffees. Its ancestral cultivation takes place on hilly plateaus, in a dense forest or semi-forest environment. The rich local biodiversity provides ideal shade for the coffee trees and contributes to the fertility of the soil. This combination of factors (exceptional terroir, traditional practices and recent recognition) has enabled Guji coffee to distinguish itself by its typicality and remarkable taste quality.
