The function of a coffee filter is to retain the ground coffee within a very fine paper cone, into which water is poured more or less slowly so that it soaks up the coffee aromas on contact before falling drop by drop into the coffee maker container below. The same principle applies to V60, Chemex or electric filter machines: however, each coffee maker has its own cone shape, so it's essential to buy the right coffee filter online!
Biodegradable or compostable coffee filters are made from plant fibers and can be placed in your vegetable garden compost after use to break down naturally. An even more eco-friendly alternative is the reusable metal or fabric filter (like the one we offer, which is compatible with several sizes of chemex coffeemaker). There are even ceramic filters for the Hario V60 which, thanks to a particularly porous ground, filter the coffee without the need for any other tools!
Don't forget that the filters are designed to hold a fine ground coffee. So, you have two options: order ground coffee online, or opt for coffee beans and buy a manual grinder to grind them into powder on demand.
