Description

This 100% Arabica washed coffee has been sourced in Burundi from Salum, the country's only independent producer.

On the nose, the Kiboko coffee offers notes of lemon and red berries blending harmoniously with hints of chocolate and almond. When savoured, it is full-bodied, with fruity, sweet flavours of honey and lemon.

Besides the inherent qualities of this coffee, it's also the history and passion of its producer that won us over.

The history behind the Kiboko coffee

Beyond its unique taste, this coffee has an authentic history. In a country where coffee production is essential for more than half the working population, and where only two players control 95% of the sector, we have chosen to source this coffee in a different way.

To do this, we chose to work with Salum, the country's only independent producer. As an entrepreneur and director of a high-performance transport company with a passion for coffee, he owns his own farm as well as four washing stations.

Salum harvests its coffee cherries between March and June. Once the red cherries have been harvested, they are wet-processed (also known as washed coffee). They are then spread out on African drying beds under natural shade to ensure a slow drying process. This technique, which is much slower than sun-drying or mechanical drying, gives the washed cherries time to sublimate their aromas!

Buying this coffee direct from the farm where it is produced means that we can :

  • control its quality right up to the source ;
  • support an independent producer directly ;
  • offer you higher quality for the same price, because there's almost no middleman!

Geographical location

Our Kiboko coffee comes from the Kayanza region in the north of Burundi, on the border with Rwanda. This is a mountainous area at around 2000m altitude. Also known for its tea production, it's in this region that our partner Salum has its farm and its four washing stations.
